I know
summer has just ended, but because room availability goes fast, we are
tentatively planning a cross country ski trip for early next year.
We usually go for 5 days or so sometime in February. We stay
at The YMCA of the Rockies. They have miles of groomed cross country
ski trails. There are 2, 3 and 4 bedroom condos and reservations
will depend on how many desire to go. We head out on a Saturday and
start skiing Sunday. This cuts down on the crowds too. We
often do some hiking in the Rocky Mountain National Forest and even hit
the hot springs for a day of soaking and relaxing. Most people head back
home on Thursday.
This comes to 5 nights accommodations, your
skiing rental fees and food. Example: 8 people in a 4 bedroom
cabin-approx $35.00 per person per night. 6 people in a 3 bedroom
cabin-approx $35.00 per night per person. Skiing: Learn to ski
package includes one day equipment rental and a 1 hour lesson for around
$40.00 Trail passes are free again this year with cabin
rental. In the past individual cabins worked out a dinner
arrangement where 2 people were responsible for the dinner for one
night. That way you had one night you had to cook and clean and the
rest were relaxing. It also leaves at least one night to go into
town.
There is a great sledding hill and a tubing hill on the
property. There is a pool too.
For the downhill skiers, there
is a Winter Park bus that comes to the Admin building to pick you
up. You purchase your lift tickets and such
separately.
Please respond if you are interested so we can get an
idea of
how many cabins to reserve.
When we actually make reservations, your
spot in a cabin will not be held without a full
payment. Why
full payment you ask? Ski
trip coordinators have regularly been responsible for finding cabin mates
for those backing out at the last minute so as not to raise the cost of
the remaining cabin mates.
Or worse, we have been stuck paying for these costs out of our own
pocket. If you do reserve a
spot and pay and then have to cancel, you will be responsible for finding
a replacement in order to get a refund.
